Attention all contractors and DIY enthusiasts!

Before installing a new roof, it is crucial to make sure you are following proper preparation and general conditions to ensure a successful and long-lasting installation. Here are some tips to consider:

  1. Carton storage should be done in a covered, dry area, and workers should carry just one carton at a time while keeping the ceiling clear of any loose items.
  2. Comply with all OSHA and workers' compensation safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  3. A minimum roof pitch of 4/12 is advised to ensure proper drainage and avoid water damage.
  4. When replacing the roof, decide whether the old roofing needs to be removed, remove any molding from the fascia board, trim back existing asphalt shingles, and install an underlayment before adding new shakes or slate over the existing asphalt shingles.
  5. Use high-temperature, non-granule coated polymer modified bitumen ice and water shield instead of doubled underlayment to ensure better insulation and protection against the elements.
  6. Proper attic ventilation can be achieved using venting hip, ridge, and soffit panels.
  7. Always wear soft-soled shoes, use best practices for scaffolding, and follow all safety guidelines when working on the roof.
  8. Follow all building codes and requirements to ensure a successful installation.
  9. Follow the manufacturer's application instructions to be eligible for warranty coverage.
  10. Use only OSHA-approved fall safety equipment.

Make sure to have the following tools on hand: screw gun, hammer, chalk line, snips, caulk gun, roofing brackets or jacks, utility knife & blades, shingle remover, knee pads, portable brake, tape measure, hand seamer, and hand stapler.

By following these tips and best practices, you can ensure a successful and long-lasting roofing installation that will protect your home or building for years to come. Remember to always refer to local building codes and regulations to ensure your installation is up to code.
